Abby Cocke was raised in Baltimore, MD and received a B.A. in Environmental Studies from UMBC. She worked first as a Community Organizer at the Parks & People Foundation and then for twelve years at the City of Baltimore’s Office of Sustainability as an Environmental Planner working on, at various times, urban agriculture policy, forest conservation, green schools programs, zero waste initiatives, community-based emergency food distribution networks, and youth leadership development. She joined the Green & Healthy Homes Initiative in August 2023 as the organization’s first Community Engagement Organizer for Maryland Climate, Energy, & Equity campaigns. Abby’s hobbies include gardening, hiking, writing, local community-building and activism, and community theater.
